The problem with this technique is that we ended up creating long and complicated formulas that, ten minutes after we finished writing them, we are not able to decipher. According to this we must make some arithmetic operations with the results. The picture is the following one: three tests (test 1, test 2, test 3) and five possibilitiesMy friend began to write a formula that combined IF functions and AND functions.

At least, they do to the five Big Pharma partners that Gene Logic has attracted in the last couple of years, including, earlier this month, Abbott Labs. But are these partners really buying into Gene Logic’s economic model—which is, by the company’s own admission, without precedent and totally unproven—or do they simply figure that they’ve got nothing to lose? There’s no cost to the larger partner unless and until Gene Logic finds a viable new indication for the compound—in which case it will owe milestones (estimated at 0-00 million per compound) and, potentially, royalties. There’s no automatic opt-in for Gene Logic—it can only take rights to repositioned compounds if the pharma partner explicitly rejects them.Effectively, Gene Logic’s had to bend over backwards to persuade Big Pharma to hand over shelved assets—everyone knows this isn’t a favorite pastime.

By, IRIN PlusNews, May 16, 2007RAWALPINDI - This is a disease about dirty people doing dirty things, remarked Mohammad Sohail, 18, a mechanic, displaying his limited knowledge of HIV as he repaired a car outside the bustling Pir Wadhai bus station, one of the largest in the city of Rawalpindi, near Islamabad, capital of Pakistan. His supervisor, Sayid Ramazan, 26, and the father of two, knew even less. I never heard of it, he said, scratching his head. Such responses are not unusual in Punjab Province, where nearly 60 percent of the country’s 158 million inhabitants live, but they highlight a serious challenge in the national response to HIV/AIDS. Pakistan’s HIV prevalence rate stands at 0.1 percent but the situation is changing rapidly, with new data revealing that an epidemic is concentrated in two risk groups: injecting drug users (IDUs), and men who have sex with men (MSM). Prevalence is rising among the country’s estimated 150,000 IDUs: in the southern city of Karachi the rate rose from 5 percent in 2002 to 27 percent in 2007, while in the city of Sargodha, about 100km from the capital, it reached a staggering 51 percent in 2007. In this staunchly conservative society, misconceptions about HIV, coupled with the taboo nature of the groups most at risk, has meant that most cases go unreported; 3,700 cases of HIV have officially been recorded since 1986, when the first one was noted in the southern port city of Karachi, but the World Health Organisation (WHO) and UNAIDS put the real number at around 200,000. According to the World Bank, underreporting is the result of social stigma attached to the infection, limited surveillance and voluntary counselling and testing services, as well as a lack of knowledge among health practitioners and the general population. Startling findings in Punjab At the end of April the Punjab AIDS Control Programme released its survey of eight districts in the province, including Lahore, Sialkot, Rawalpindi, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur and Multan, which revealed that 87 percent of all respondents had heard of HIV/AIDS. However, less than one percent were aware that HIV could be transmitted from wounds, or from mother to child, while 62 percent had not even heard of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), much less transmission modes or prevention measures. Although 26 percent were aware that the virus could be transmitted through risky sexual behaviour, and 23 percent knew that used needles could pose a risk, only six percent knew that blood transfusions could also be a mode of transmission, and a mere four percent understood that using a condom could be an effective precaution against becoming infected with HIV. What is reflected in the Punjab survey is indicative of the whole nation, warned Fawad Haider, the advocacy focal point for UNAIDS in Islamabad. We still havent been able to reach the real people of Pakistan,” he explained, referring to the majority of Pakistanis, who live in rural areas. Most awareness interventions have been targeted at policy-makers and people living in urban areas. “When we target the policy-makers and political leadership, the purpose is to get them to use their positions of influence to spread awareness amongst their constituents, allowing them to go back to the district level … and spread the awareness at that level,” the UNAIDS official said. Although the strategy of placing the government at the forefront of media awareness campaigns has made some progress, it has not always worked. Moreover, the speed at which awareness levels have increased has been far from satisfactory, and the government has yet to give HIV/AIDS priority on the national agenda. Hina Rabbani Khar, the State Minister for Economic Affairs and Finance, recently downplayed the significance of the disease, making HIV/AIDS a difficult issue to advocate for. However, there is some optimism: the government hopes to significantly boost behavioural change among groups deemed most at risk, including female commercial sex workers, MSM, and those born biologically male but who wish to be female, called hijras or eunuchs. According to the countrys new universal access targets for the next three years, the government aims to reach 25 percent of each of these groups in 2007, with a coverage target of 60 percent in 2010. I believe we could even surpass those figures, said Dr Nasir Sarfraz, deputy programme manager of the National Aids Control Programme. A question of resources Akbar Babar, a private consultant who carried out the Punjab study, said the findings conveyed a stark message that more resources were needed to improve awareness levels nationwide. We all know awareness campaigns are expensive; electronic media is expensive, but extremely poor levels of awareness about HIV and its transmission routes should convince policy-makers that we need to allocate a lot more [resources], so that the media reports can be more intense, he said, calling for a significant boost in allocation, particularly for television. The only answer is to spread as much awareness as possible, said Haider, from UNAIDS. The more people know about the modes of transmission, the better the understanding they would have, and the less taboo, stigma and discrimination will be attached to the virus. ds/kn/heSource: http://www.irinnews.org/Report.aspx?ReportId=72164

The Healing of a Boy with an Evil Spirit 14When they came to the other disciples, they saw a large crowd around them and the teachers of the law arguing with them. 15As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him. 16What are you arguing with them about? he asked. 17A man in the crowd answered, Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. 18Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not. 19O unbelieving generation, Jesus replied, how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me. 20So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. 21Jesus asked the boy’s father, How long has he been like this? From childhood, he answered. 22It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us. 23 If you can? said Jesus. Everything is possible for him who believes. 24Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, I do believecommand: command [-pVv] command [arg ...]
Runs COMMAND with ARGS ignoring shell functions. If you have a shell
function called `ls’, and you wish to call the command `ls’, you can
say “command ls”. If the -p option is given, a default value is used
for PATH that is guaranteed to find all of the standard utilities. If
the -V or -v option is given, a string is printed describing COMMAND.
The -V option produces a more verbose description.
hash: hash [-lr] [-p pathname] [-dt] [name ...]
For each NAME, the full pathname of the command is determined and
remembered. If the -p option is supplied, PATHNAME is used as the
full pathname of NAME, and no path search is performed. The -r
option causes the shell to forget all remembered locations. The -d
option causes the shell to forget the remembered location of each NAME.
If the -t option is supplied the full pathname to which each NAME
corresponds is printed. If multiple NAME arguments are supplied with
-t, the NAME is printed before the hashed full pathname. The -l option
causes output to be displayed in a format that may be reused as input.
If no arguments are given, information about remembered commands is displayed.
help: help [-s] [pattern ...]
Display helpful information about builtin commands. If PATTERN is
specified, gives detailed help on all commands matching PATTERN,
otherwise a list of the builtins is printed. The -s option
restricts the output for each builtin command matching PATTERN to
a short usage synopsis.
alias: alias [-p] [name[=value] … ]
`alias’ with no arguments or with the -p option prints the list
of aliases in the form alias NAME=VALUE on standard output.
Otherwise, an alias is defined for each NAME whose VALUE is given.
A trailing space in VALUE causes the next word to be checked for
alias substitution when the alias is expanded. Alias returns
true unless a NAME is given for which no alias has been defined.
type: type [-afptP] name [name ...]
For each NAME, indicate how it would be interpreted if used as a
command name.

If the -t option is used, `type’ outputs a single word which is one of
`alias’, `keyword’, `function’, `builtin’, `file’ or `’, if NAME is an
alias, shell reserved word, shell function, shell builtin, disk file,
or unfound, respectively.

If the -p flag is used, `type’ either returns the name of the disk
file that would be executed, or nothing if `type -t NAME’ would not
return `file’.

If the -a flag is used, `type’ displays all of the places that contain
an executable named `file’. This includes aliases, builtins, and
functions, if and only if the -p flag is not also used.

The -f flag suppresses shell function lookup.

The -P flag forces a PATH search for each NAME, even if it is an alias,
builtin, or function, and returns the name of the disk file that would
be executed.

history: history [-c] [-d offset] [n] or history -awrn [filename] or history -ps arg [arg...]
Display the history list with line numbers. Lines listed with
with a `*’ have been modified. Argument of N says to list only
the last N lines. The `-c’ option causes the history list to be
cleared by deleting all of the entries. The `-d’ option deletes
the history entry at offset OFFSET. The `-w’ option writes out the
current history to the history file; `-r’ means to read the file and
append the contents to the history list instead. `-a’ means
to append history lines from this session to the history file.
Argument `-n’ means to read all history lines not already read
from the history file and append them to the history list.

If FILENAME is given, then that is used as the history file else
if $HISTFILE has a value, that is used, else ~/.bash_history.
If the -s option is supplied, the non-option ARGs are appended to
the history list as a single entry. The -p option means to perform
history expansion on each ARG and display the result, without storing
anything in the history list.

If the $HISTTIMEFORMAT variable is set and not null, its value is used
as a format string for strftime(3) to print the time stamp associated
with each displayed history entry. No time stamps are printed otherwise.
alias: alias [-p] [name[=value] … ]
`alias’ with no arguments or with the -p option prints the list
of aliases in the form alias NAME=VALUE on standard output.
Otherwise, an alias is defined for each NAME whose VALUE is given.

Agrippa said to Paul, ‘You have permission to speak for yourself.’ Then Paul stretched out his hand and began to defend himself: ‘With this in mind, I was travelling to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests, when at midday along the road, your Excellency, O king I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, shining around me and my companions. ‘After that, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, but declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout the countryside of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God and do deeds consistent with repentance. Paul replied, ‘Whether quickly or not, I pray to God that not only you but also all who are listening to me today might become such as I am—except for these chains.’

52 out, 52 home. Most of them look shell shocked, many are being carried onto the coach, but it’s not until I see someone carrying a man over his shoulder down the aisle that I realise they’re putting the dead ones back into their seats too, still in full uniform and propped up as best they can in their seats next to the living.I start staring through the coach windows trying to work out which expressions are frozen in death and which in horror.Where the hell did that come from??

I was born at 11.30pm on April 29th, 1989 - exactly 40 years later than my dad, which means i have to do the shared-birthday thing. I used to think that i could breathe under water - now, i don’t want to try because i’ll probably prove myself wrong…3. I still sleep with a teddy - and i don’t plan to stop anytime soon.4. The previews are pretty much the best part of going to the movies - it’s basically half a dozen mini-movies!5. If you ever say something that has even the slightest possibility of meaning something else, then i’ll probably misinterpret - in a negative way. I have almost zero confidence - and to make up for that i often act overly confident. I love my blog, even though it often gets me in trouble and i don’t think many people read it.17. I collect cow things - i’ve got a whole shelf of them. I get bored easily - i always want to be having fun. When i get text messages, i often don’t look to see what they’re about - i prefer to think that they’re really exciting and i hate being disapointed when they’re not. I’m often the person who’s making other laugh - either because of my stunning wit or my embarassing moments. I love people fairly easily. Boys need to understand that we wear heels to impress them but aren’t willing to keep silent about the pain - they need to be more grateful!44. I worry about the people that i love dying. I love music - playing it, singing it, hearing it; I wish my family was one where we were all close and there were many cousins - the types that you see in movies. I’m a tomboy most of the time - but i’m not so great with sports. I don’t believe people who tell me that i’m mature, but i hate it when people say that i’m immature. I always wish there were people that i could tell absolutely everything to - just one person would do. I don’t drink coffee because it stunts your growth (even though i don’t want to be taller), it makes your teeth yellow and it keeps you up late - and i already don’t sleep enough.

She has since returned to normal size, but still shoots fire from her eyes.26. My son is a pint sized carbon copy of her.30. My son is a stunt man, with poor planning.32. At two, my son unlocked a locked window and JUMPED from a second story window. My son is named after a wrestling superstar.36. My daughter is named after the several siblings and aunts bearing her same name.38. Her son was about as receptive to me as mine was to her, at first.44. Her son loves me. My son may actually love her more than her loves me.45. My son will most likely be treated at one of their hospitals for his leg surgeries, free of charge.63. The only other love in my life besides my family, is Kernel Sander’s secret blend of herbs and spices.66. After getting out of the Army, I developed a love for the Kernel’s chicken, and a hatred of exercise.67. The first thing I do when I get off from working on computers, is go home and sit in front of mine. I love to read blogs. I am loved and appreciated in my home. Soon I will have a step son. -ne Baling Pinestraw Is A Hard Way To Make A Dollar ! We baled straw from gray in the morning until gray in the evening. Then we hit the swimming hole until after dark. After supper, we played penny poker until midnight. With such a little amount of sleep, it’s a wonder we were able to bale any straw at all.Sometimes we baled two tractor trailer loads of straw a day. A fellow at the back of the baler would run tie-wires around the bale before the machine spit them out. That thing would work you almost to death if you were the one stoking the straw in the hole.I wonder if teenagers today have ever seen a blister on their hands !The farmer paid us such a ridiculously low wage, I won’t even mention the amount. It was about fifty feet in diameter and at least twenty feet deep in some spots.Don’t ask me how they got it so deep.Well, dynamite was easier to get in the fifties and sixties. The swimming hole became the entire focus of our summer in Patrick. We headed straight to the hole as soon as we baled the last bale each day.It would take several books to list everything we did there, but I will mention just two.A large pine tree was growing right up to the waters edge.

Array After checking our luggage, more briefings, and breakfast, we boarded our C-17 and began our flight to Antarctica. I came to find out that while in flight, they were definitely needed. The flight was one of the smoothest flights I had ever experienced. I can honestly say without having any windows to look out from the longest part of the flight was the time after we were told we were descending. I was so tired after waking up at 0430 after 4 hours of sleep, I went straight to sleep before only unpacking my uniform.Today, I was up at about 0630. After a shower and breakfast, I went to the firehouse early before the beginning of my shift at 0800. We hopped into Ambulance 2 which was parked outside of the hospital (which is next door to the firehouse) and drove 10 minutes out to Station 2, a small double-wide on the runway. It didn’t dawn on me how different the weather was going to be on the runway considering that the runway is over an ocean. Now, on top of Station 2, there is a thick plastic bubble that gives you a 360 degree view of the world around the Runway and the station from an elevated position.

As more and more people with HIV age, we will begin to see the data regarding how they fare as their bodies begin to go through the ageing process. And when money is the bottom line, everyone suffers.Yesterday, we heard that an amazing doctor specializing in HIV in our community died of a heart attack while swimming from one island in Maine to another to raise money for an AIDS-related organization. How many people see their doctors as something other than mortal and fallible?Next week I have the entire week off to celebrate my birthday (41!) and soak in some of the final days of the summer before Labor Day heralds the beginning of school and that September feeling of renewal and change. In many ways I look forward to the autumn: the crisp air, wearing a jacket on the cool mornings, getting back to teaching on Thursday nights as the summer wanes and the leaves begin their transition.

Those are the only two I’ve read.First I thought I’d write only about the boring topic of things I learned reading blogs, blogging and thinking about blogging. Blog reading and blogging are addictive. Blogging makes you live composing blog posts in your head, like Dawn quoted from someone else here. I’ve learned so much from blogging that it’s hard to list. The first blog I ever read was Invisible Adjunct, but it didn’t get me blogging. Then I read a former teacher’s blog about his experience in Japan (Found in Translation) and got curious. Reading This Woman’s Work fascinated me and soon after I started the blog. I read all the blogs in my blogroll, that’s why it’s not a really long list. Before adding someone I usually read or browse through most of their blog archives first. I just updated my blogroll, trying to classify the blogs I read into some of these “cliques” as a result, I started reading her blog – of something when some of them started to read (comment on) my blog (big thanks to you, Kate, Stella’s mami, “Sophie”, and Sandra). I sought after some academic mama blogs, and started to read them, but I don’t really “belong”, I guess, at least not yet. (and I have to finish writing a dissertation, instead of keeping a blog, I don’t know how I’ll do it, but I hope I can : ) 33. I am aware now that I may not get a job in academia because I blog (or, if I’m a nanny and my employer reads my blog, I could be fired : ) 34. This is no reason to stop reading anonymous blogs, I realize. thing my husband said to our best friends from Brazil about my blog: “We’re so busy that I have to read her blog so I can ‘talk’ I’m sure there were more things I had to say about blogging, writing, and what I learned but I’ll stop here, and move on to the more “juicy”

The Poll results as known showed that the Presidential form of government got support from 93,042 voters (62 percent) compared with 57,109 ( 38 percent) voters who voted for the parliamentary form of government. While the total number of eligible voters in Maldives was given earlier as 125,000 including the newly added voters between 18 and 21 years of age, it is now said that the total number of eligible voters was 194,000 out of which 150,151 have voted. While the referendum result is being projected as a personal victory for President Gayoom and his reform agenda, it is our view that the voting has not been so overwhelming in his favour as it happened in earlier elections and secondly the 62 percent voting was not all for DRP, but also to three other parties -namely the Islamic Democratic Party, Adaalathu Party and the Maldivian Socialist democratic party. It need not be so and given a situation where the people have voted democratically for the first time, Anni should take credit for mustering singlehandedly almost 40 percent of the votes on an issue which has only an indirect bearing on the future system of governance and not on the incumbents.

A while back, I posted about Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese reteaming for the ninth time for Frankie Machine.First, thanks to Dark Horizons for pointing this out:Collider.com is reporting that they have it from a reliable source that Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese has dropped out of Frankie Machine. It gives no reason and suggests that the entire project may now be scrapped.I have to say this sounds odd. Even if Scorsese were to drop out, De Niro (the star and producer) is a big enough name that it should be able to move forward with another director. I don’t normally peruse Collider, so I don’t know how credible they are. No offense to them, but I want to hear it from an established sourse.I shall keep an eye out of more info on this. Hopefully we will get a confirmation, or get it shot down sometime in the near future.Machine is based on Don Winslow’s The Winter of Frankie Machine. De Niro liked the manuscript so much, he bought the rights before the novel was published.Frank Machianno, aka Frankie Machine, retires from his life as a contract killer and begins a new life in San Diego. Far removed from any of the thrills of his mob life, he opens a bait shack on Ocean Beach Pier, runs three other legit businesses, and when nothing else demands his attention, puts his board in the water and rides the waves. Not a bad life for the 62-year-old Vietnam vet
